Production Update: Curtain
Rehearsals begin tomorrow for my latest short film, the backstage drama, Curtain. I find this appropriate since my last directorial effort was the backstage comedy The Scottish Play back in 1999. And that was a student film. Ever since I worked on Backspin with Vik last year, I’ve been searching for something to get me back in the director’s chair, so I decided to revisit familiar territory.
All the casting was done last week, and I’m happy to say we’ve got a great cast of players. A very big thank you has to be said to Matt and Katie, who gave their help out with reading against the other actors and didn’t kill me when I gave them lesser parts. You guys rock!
The first full reading with the cast is tomorrow, and we shoot on Feb 26th. Only two weeks away. I’m really looking forward to see it all come together. I’ll continue giving updates on the progress of the production in the coming weeks.
On a side note: I have to give mention to my new love of the band The Servant. For those of you that have seen it, the instrumental part of their song “Cells” is the prominently featured music in the uber-cool trailer for Sin City. Their album is still an import and can only be found through online retailers at the moment. It is definitely worth a spin once you track it down. So a big shout out to Robert Rodriguez and crew for introducing us to that, and another big shout out again to Katie who persisted in finding the CD and introduced me to the rest of their music.
