Housekeeping

I have been swamped with pre-production for Curtain as well as other work (this will all be covered in my next Production Update), but for now I have a little housekeeping to do in regards to the website.

I am fairly new to this whole website concept, so this will be an interesting adventure. First, some notes on Sundance. My friend Katie and I had long made plans to take a trip out to the Sundance Film Festival this year, pretty much since Katie took the adventurous trip to Park City a year ago for the 2004 Festival. So, this year was a big deal. We planned ahead, rented a condo for the week, got passes. My friend Matt joined us, and we took the long drive out to Park City, UT. Long story short, it was quite an amazing experience, and I came back motivated to work on my own film.

My Pictures section is pretty self explanatory, but it is incomplete at the moment. As you can see, I have my headshots and a scant few pictures of my recent trip to Sundance. I had intended to write an essay about my experiences there, but as I came back from the trip and went headlong into production on Curtain, that is not going to be happening. What I have written here and the few pics I’ve posted (which I have every intention of expanding) will have to suffice for the moment. One of these days, I may compile the journal I took while I was there, but I make no promises.

Now there is the matter of my Fiction section. In regards to the short stories that make up the section, they are pretty much what they are and nothing more. They are small tales that I enjoyed writing, thought would be fun to read, and are meant to be taken as stand alone stories, not necessarily part of larger collections.

“Of Soldiers and Children” is an interesting exception because it is inspired by another project I have been working on. It obviously has a larger context that it is taken from, but the story of the Lieutenant and the children is separate from what I had previously developed, so it is meant to be something to stand alone. Some day I do intend to revisit their story and this awful war they are caught up in because I do want to know what happens to the Lieutenant. For now, it’s just a little experiment to see if this story can stand on its own. And I do kind of like it.

So, look for more short stories to be up in the future. I may dust off a few oldies, though I will have to retype them since I tend to write them all longhand. Just be patient. And keep an eye out for possible reoccurring characters, too.

Finally, am I the only one that saw the irony of the new Yahoo DSL ads that played “Layla” (possibly one of the angriest unrequited love songs ever) ad nauseam during the past weeks through Valentine’s Day? I realize the two things are unrelated, I just found it funny. Maybe it’s just me, but it felt a bit like playing “Mrs. Robinson” during the wedding reception for a couple of the same name. So, in honor of everyone who survived another St. Valentine’s Day, I proclaim the Song of the Week “Layla” by Derek and the Dominos.
