Introducing: The Modlins
This past weekend was spent down in beautiful San Diego at the release party for The Andrew EP, the new record from my good friends The Modlins.
Who are The Modlins, you ask? Well, I’ve known Matt Sheridan (that would be one of the cats in the band) for over a year now. Back then, he and Eric Killian were calling themselves The Beatless (as in without a beat, not The Beatles with an extra “s”). Ironically enough, they didn’t have a drummer a the time. As far as that old band from Liverpool is concerned, Matt and Eric are great fans, and they do have a great Beatles-esque oldies/classic rock sound.
During one eventful rehearsal for what would become The Daniel EP, I provided some improvised percussion on my knees. So the story goes, they never did get a good recording of my knee slapping before I started getting soar, and apparently they got this guy Daniel to drum for them on the EP. Not that I’m bitter about it or anything.
Seriously though, they now have an awesome drummer (Chris “Stoph” Rhanor), and have since changed their name to The Modlins for their latest EP. Well, I guess they’re calling it an EP, but they ended up putting a dozen songs on it, which as far as I’m concerned constitutes an LP. (There was a short-lived joke that they’d call it the LP EP.) Still, it’s damn good, and this weekend was particularly energizing just to see other friends move forward in their creative ambitions.

Oh yeah, and that Daniel fellow is part of the band Spanish Archer, a pretty good band in it’s own right. More about them at: www.spanisharcher.com
