NaNoWriMo Winner!

NaNoWriMo Winner Well, it’s official. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, I was able to make the final push, and I met the goal of writing a 50,000 word novel for National Novel Writing Month. The Lonely Boy, the novel in question, actually clocks in at just over 51,000 words. The extra thousand words was really just for good measure. Since I have never attempted a novel before, short or not, this was an interesting experience in storytelling.

I actually learned a lot about my own writing abilities and what it takes to write a novel. The word count for the amount of story I wrote was a lot higher than I expected. In face, I was only able to cover about the first have of the outline I sketched out before I started. I am interested to see how the rest of it might turn out, and I do intend to write it into a screenplay. Plus, I happen to enjoy the characters, so I want to see where it goes. You can read an exerpt of the prologue of The Lonely Boy on my NaNoWriMo profile page here.
