Keep Creating

I’ve been away from the blog for the past couple weeks mostly because I have been revising Samuel Jinx, for which I have a new draft. I have also been catching up on past seasons of “Deadwood” and I must say, I’ve been inspired. Not to write a western; to continuously swear like a drunken sailor in a brothel. Oh, if I could only write an occasional line of dialogue that had as much poetry as just the use of colorful metaphors in that show, I’d be set, thank you very much.

Seriously though, I have been keeping on my creative streak since finishing the latest draft of Samuel Jinx. (I had intended to put some pages up in the screenplay section, but I’ve been having some problems uploading the files for whatever reason.) Always trying to stay fresh, I’ve moved directly into a new story idea. A couple actually. I’ve gotten so entrenched in screenwriting lately that I forget that sometimes short stories are the way to go. More on that later.

My overall theme for this week (and certainly for the rest of my life) is to follow some good advice I was given when it comes to writing. That is, if you’re going to be a writer (or undertake any creative endeavor for that matter), you need to just write and keep writing, and that’s what I intend to do. Keep writing. Great advice. Without getting too preachy or mushy, I think that’s the best advice anyone can ever take when it comes to writing. Speaking for myself, the more I write, I can feel how much better I really am at it. I think that’s one of the reasons that a script like Samuel Jinx or The Short, Happy Life of Vincent Gennaro (which I am currently revisiting) is never really finished until that magical moment when the completed film is released. O’ glory day.

In coming weeks, I should have pages up from Samuel Jinx and a couple new short stories. Stay tuned.
