Samuel Jinx: The Podcast?

Well… not exactly…

I have been considering doing a podcast for quite a long time because 1) I’ve always wanted to do a radio show, and 2) let’s face it, podcasting is oh so hip right now. One early idea was to take one of my many attempts to bring Samuel Jinx to life in the form of a serialized radio drama. Never having done a podcast and facing putting together a voice cast as well as laying down sound effects and music (not to mention, you know, writing scripts for the show in my spare time), I was quite daunted.

Then, on my way home from work last night, I had a stroke of inspiration. Why not do a fan-style podcast akin to Pottercast or The Transmission except for a show that does not actually exist?

What do I mean by that? Well, take your average fan podcast, where a couple fans get together and talk about the latest episodes/news/theories/exciting stuff for fan-riffic things like “Lost” or Harry Potter or Star Wars. The difference here is two-fold: Here we would be discussing something that did not actually exist except in the universe of our podcast world. Also, we would be able to change the format from episode to episode, discussing whatever crazy idea we came up with for that show as if that were the subject of all the episodes.

For instance, one episode could be a fanboy discussion on let’s say a new series following the young life of King Arthur, and the next episode could be a rabid, theory spewing entry covering the season-ending cliffhanger for the third season of “The Adventures of Samuel Book” (you just knew I had to get that in there) as if that was the show we’d been covering all this time.

Sure, it’s a crazy idea, but it’ll be fun. Plus, I’m all about crazy ideas. I spoke briefly about it with resident voice man Brother Matt, so he will hopefully agree to come on an make this a two-man show. (No pressure, Matt.) And of course, I’ll be producing short clips from these fictional shows to add a little reality as well as indulge my creative desires to actually produce these shows without actually having to produce them. Also, if there is anyone out there familiar with producing podcasts, please let me know. I have a feeling we’ll need all the help we can get.

Stay tuned for the first exciting episode…
